THN! News - Application Submitted to the EDA

Elevate Quantum (EQ) team successfully submitted its Phase 2 application

Dear Partners and Colleagues,

Our Elevate Quantum (EQ) team successfully submitted its Phase 2 implementation grant application for Elevate Quantum to the EDA on Wednesday, February 28th. Through months of collaborative efforts, the EQ team, the States of Colorado, New Mexico & Wyoming, and a consortium of 116 organizations across the Mountain West region, EQ signals its leadership in quantum, focusing on national and economic security.

We are grateful to many who dedicated their time, energy, and expertise to support this strategic effort. The commitment from workforce partners across academia (32 institutions including K-12 schools, community colleges, and higher education), quantum industry leaders (including startups, scale-ups, and Big Tech), federal labs (with five labs bringing more than $9.68 billion in quantum-relevant investment), economic development organizations (including accelerators and leading quantum investors), labor and workforce training organizations (the Elevate Quantum Workforce Collaborative), and government (including eight state, local, and Tribal governments) has been instrumental in shaping our proposal.

Governor Polis and the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT)’s advocacy for establishing the Mountain West region as the global epicenter in Quantum Information Technology (QIT) has allowed us to build a successful quantum Tech Hub.

PARTNERS ACROSS THE ELEVATE QUANTUM HUB HAVE MADE SIGNIFICANT COMMITMENTS, INCLUDING:

  • Colorado has committed $74 million to support the quantum ecosystem, $44 million to support the establishment of EQ’s fabrication and laboratory facilities, and $30 million of funding for Quantum Loan Guarantees.

  • New Mexico has committed more than $10 million to EQ and announced the creation of the Quantum New Mexico Institute.

  • Key U.S. Big Tech industry players, such as Microsoft, Amazon, Google, Nvidia, and Lockheed Martin, are investing in QIT and have joined EQ.

Today, Colorado is the global leader in QIT. A successful Phase 2 EDA award up to $70 million will unlock over $80 million from CO, NM, and WY and over $1 billion of private capital and industry collaborations, cementing the Mountain West region as the center of the global quantum economy.
